Have you got an older home with a ’60s or ’70s extension that just doesn’t work? The best way to get all the space you really need starts with a beautiful design like the one we’ve been engaged to build at Walkerville.
Sometimes updating your space, no matter how big it might be, just doesn’t make sense.
Even if it’s a huge space, it can be wiser financially to knock it down and start again.
Dollars aside, starting from scratch has lots of advantages. First and foremost, it gives you a blank canvas to design exactly what you want so you can relish in the best of your home.
Fantasising about a sumptuous master suite and dressing room? Perhaps you’ve always wanted an airy living-dining area with sleek concrete floors? Whatever’s on your wish-list, a new addition gives you the chance to enjoy the quality of life you deserve.
Knock it down and start again
In the heart of leafy Walkerville, on the outskirts of Adelaide, this beautiful old villa is overflowing with character and period charm.
But while it offers heaps of space, the ‘70s layout and design doesn’t work for the owners today. At the rear of the home, Australia’s tiniest spiral staircase leads up to a series of pokey rooms with no flow. The home is begging for someone to realise its true potential.
So using the beautiful design, we are about to transform this Walkerville villa to create a spacious floorplan that works for the owners. By demolishing the old double-storey rear section of house, we can build a new two-level addition with all the space and features the owners want.
Upper storey heaven
On the upper level of the extension, we’re building a luxuriously large master suite which boasts a dressing room and en suite to die for. Added to that is a separate study. Oh, and the spiral staircase will be a distant memory!
Open plan living
Downstairs, the Walkerville addition will feature two bathrooms, a glorious kitchen/living/dining area boasting a huge pantry room, and a huge laundry complete with a WC and shower for pool visitors. Throughout the ground level, polished concrete floors will inject some much-needed contemporary style.
Connect your space
That’s not all! We’ll be reinventing some existing rooms in the main house to create a wonderful sense of space, with more daylight, openness and flow. Of course, all of this will be finished without compromising the architectural character of this quintessential Walkerville villa.
If your space isn’t working for you, it could be time to knock it down and start again. Our Walkerville villa addition will show why it makes sense to start with a blank canvas to create the very best in modern living. We’re just at the beginning of this project, so keep watching for updates and inspiration!
